#5 - Newsletter of the Daleks
Happy 60th anniversary, Doctor! You don't look a day over 4 billion!
It seems like just yesterday I was at a small panel room at Long Beach Comic Con as they struggled to get Day of the Doctor streaming through the digital projector. A few folks walked out, but most stayed. It was absolutely worth the wait, and it was the perfect audience to share the special with.
Of course, that was ten years ago. And during this last decade, I’ve written (if my count is accurate) 949 pages of Doctor Who comics for publication. If you include the stories that were changed or canceled after scripting, the number is easily over 1000. And I believe, at last count, I had written seven different Doctors! Including these two.
I feel like I’ve talked about Doctor Who a lot over the years, in both panels and interviews, so I’ll just give a quick rundown here.
My first Doctor was the Eighth Doctor (hazards of being American.)
The episode that made me love Doctor Who was “Father’s Day”. I’m lucky enough to call Paul Cornell a friend, and try to always give him the credit/blame.
My favorite Doctor is whoever I watched most recently. But also Ten, because his excitement as the puzzle pieces click into place very much resembles my brain on a good writing day.
Doctor Who is the reason I met my boyfriend. Eric was running a Doctor Who RPG actual play on Geek & Sundry, I reached out and asked if I could guest, and then I never left. I played The Corsair (as created by one Neil Gaiman), and years later got to introduce them in the comics.
Dan Watters has been announced as writing the Fifteenth Doctor comics for Titan, but I wouldn’t say my time in the TARDIS is over just yet…
I’m closing out 2023 with two more conventions! This weekend, I’ll be at Fan Expo San Francisco, and next weekend I’ll be at L.A. Comic Con! At both shows, I’ll be set up with Comic Sketch Art in Artist Alley, signing and selling books.
And as the handy graphic says, you can also order signed books from me online. My Ko-Fi shop will be closed from Dec 5th to Dec 12th, as I’ll be travelling, so get your orders in early to make sure they arrive in time for the holidays!
In 2024, I’m doing my first Signature Series with local comic shop Collector’s Paradise for Thrawn: Alliances! Basically, if you preorder the full miniseries, you will get ALL of the issues signed. You can preorder here. There’s also a signing in the works for the #1 release in January, so stay tuned for more details!
After some requests, I’ve opened up paid subscriptions for this newsletter. I want to stress that the actual newsletter part will always remain free. I’ll be looking at adding some additional content for paid subscribers in the new year, but for now, it is just a means to show your support.
As always, I’m thankful for you! Happy Thanksgiving/Doctor Who 60th to all who celebrate!
I am intrigued to hear about the doctor who stories you never wrote! Is there any chance we could ever hear a little about them?!
